Beard Oil vs Beard Balm

Australian beard oil beard beard balm beard care beard comb beard oil beard product men's grooming

Beard Oil Vs Beard Balm? This is definitely the most frequently asked question in regards to our beard care products at Parker For Men. While there is no generic answer, as it comes down to a few aspects. That being personal preference, length of beard and your skins natural state dry or oily.

Beard Oil

Beard oil is a staple grooming accessory for the modern beardsman. Beard oil is a leave in conditioner that will moisturise both your beard hair and skin underneath preventing that annoying beard itch and beardruff. Beard oil is great for beards of all lengths especially in the early stages, as a daily application of beard oil will promote a healthy environment for optimal beard growth.

When purchasing a beard oil ensure that it contains jojoba or argan oil being the best moisturising oils.

Beard Balm

Beard Balm is undeniably the second most common grooming accessory for the modern beardsman. In my personal experience i would recommend beard balm to any guys rocking a medium to long beard, especially if you have more coarse unruly beard hair and beard oil just can't give it that shape. Also if your beard is on the patchy or thinner side beard balm can't be great to help give it a fuller look.

When i had my longer length beard i actually liked to use a bit of both, beard oil to get a deep condition of my beard and skin underneath and finish it off with some beard balm for styling.

Beard Balm whilst still a leave in conditioner it's definitely more of a styling aid. A quality balm will still moisturiser and nourish your beard but with the main ingredient commonly being beeswax it won't provide your beard and skin underneath as deep of a moisturising/conditioning benefit that of beard oil. Its main purpose is to give your beard shape and hold down those stray hairs.

When purchasing a beard balm avoid petroleum and silicone ingredients as these don't allow your hair and skin to breath at all!

So as you can see there's no right or wrong here. In my experience i'd start with a beard oil and if you're going into the medium to long range grab a beard balm to aid in styling your longer length beard.
